Haiti's history is deeply rooted in our lives. Statues are placed everywhere in order to remind us of the people that helped us gain our freedom. They are the reason we were the first black nation. We remember them every time we walk by or drive by one of their statues.

This statue honors an unknown freedom fighter who uses a conch shell to make a call for freedom.

This statue honors a Haitian General, President, and King named Henri Christophe. He was a volunteer who fought with the French to help the United States gain its independence in 1776. He built the Fort Citadelle as an order by Jean Jacques Dessaline. Nowadays, it is considered one of the eight wonders of the world.

This statue honors a Haitian hero who was General Toussaint Louverture. One of his well known quotes is "By overthrowing me, they have only brought down in Saint-Domingue the trunk of the tree of freedom of the blacks, it will grow again by its roots because they are deep an numerous."

This statue honors General and Governor General for life Jean Jacques Dessalines. He is considered the Father of Haitian Independence. He proclaimed his honor guard and loyalty as Emperor in September 1804 and was crowned on October 1804. One of his well known quotes is " Live free or die!"
